LJI 10 Week 4: The Scientific Experiment

Jan 06, 2017 19:43

A note from alycewilson: We talked about this week's topic, "I don't skate to where the puck is. I skate to where the puck is going to be," a Wayne Gretzky quote, and I explained to KFP that it has to do with anticipating what's going to happen. He pointed out that's a lot like what scientists do when they use the scientific method, and that inspired him to ( Read more... )

I liked your story. Now, I know that pencil metal will never stick to a magnet.

What a good idea for a scientific experiment, and the drawing sure went along with it!

Science Teacher (grades K - 8) here. VERY astute thinking! Scientists have to think very carefully and have some good ideas about what MIGHT happen so that they can plan smart experiments. Einstein called them "thought experiments." You can't just randomly decide to test something wacky, like "What if I mixed a banana in with these magnets?" unless, of course, you know something about bananas that might change the magnetism in some way.

Delightful, and well thought through. I like the fact that the experiment didn't prove the hypothesis, and the scientist still learned from it. Well done! Your art is good too!
