Yesterday, after getting some things moved out of the garage (and handed off to a co-worker) viridis_ama and I headed down to Shelmerdine's to look for a new tree ( Read more... )

Considering the way trees act in the wild, Morgana probably saw the stumps and thought "Hooray! The light will be mine! All Mine!"

Very true!

This is probably the very reason our previous (too-closely spaced) Manitoba Maples grew so tall and skinny.

Oh, no we didn't see you. :)

We took the bikes out on our new bike carrier for the first time, and subjected ourselves to a grueling (but fun) 2-hr ride. If we were heading south, we were probably still fresh. If we were heading north, we were thinking, "Oh dear god where is the car."

Well, it was a very sudden passing and I'm certain that you weren't trying to I.D. every driver that went past!

I'm glad you folks had a good ride... I've never tried doing those trails at all and seeing you two definitely made me realise I need to give my bike more love before the end of summer!

You were headed south at the time, so you two were still as fresh as daisies.

Yes, that was up riding up in that end of town. We finally got the bike carrier mounted properly on our car and decided to take it out for a test spin.

The idea of getting a bike carrier has always interested me. Viridis_ama really doesn't like riding on the streets (it's like she doesn't trust drivers), so that can limit some of our routes right now.

Did you get the kind that attaches to a trailer hitch?

We looked at those, but atara did some research and decided that the bumper-mounted type are preferable. This one basically hangs onto the back of the vehicle by a bunch of straps. It looks ungainly, but it works well enough.
