Avril is over-rated. Sorry- I don't think she's very original. Her music is very easily categorized; it's "pop" (or "pop/rock" which is basically just pop). I generally am really bad with genres, but her style is decent lyrics (although they can be cliche), nice beat and good vocal harmony. Yeah, I like some of her songs, but I still think she's over-rated and that when she first came out she tried to hard to appeal to the "I'm-really-a-bad-girl-by-being-a-'nonconformist'-even-though-I'm-technically-not"-poser community with all her "I'M PUNK" nonsense

You're right, they aren't exactly comparable as far as their musical styles go. I find Britney's voice pretty thin, though, and I was trying to more compare their voices.
Avril has said before that she's all "PUNK RAWK" and whatnot, but then she turns around and says on other occasions that she's a pop artist. But I know she isn't as hardcore as she says she is, at least when she IS saying that she is hardcore.
I don't have a problem with artists being synthesized, because sometimes it does add an interesting effect to the music. On Evanescence's last album, many of the songs are thickly layered, to a great effect. With Britney, I just don't think that she has that much vocal talent. She sounds weak to me if her voice isn't layered.
P.S. Nelly Furtado is synthesized a lot more on her latest album, but mostly wasn't on her previous two, I think.

A lot of Britney's most popular songs don't seem to call for a "great" voice, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have one. Her slower songs (which she really isn't known for) tend to compliment her vocal skills more since they focus more on her. These songs include ones like "Everytime" and "Someday (I Will Understand)". If you've heard these songs (or at least some other slow song or something focusing mainly on her voice and not just the melody and background music, these were the only ones I could think of) and you still don't like her as much as Avril, then I can't really argue your preferences for voices.
I personally am fickle about things like this- sometimes I'll be in the mood for Britney, other times Avril and then still other times I hate them both :D ~
PS- No, the title to this note isn't relevant at all. Just for the record.
