I got my Urban Harvest plant and seed catalog yesterday at the market, so the planning begins anew. I had started working last fall on what I wanted to do this spring, but, as it turns out, nearly everything I really wanted to try planting just does not grow well in this particular area, as it's simply too shady. I've had no problems with hot peppers and tomatoes on my north-facing balcony, which gets pathetic sunlight. Bell peppers I have issues with, but you can't do bell peppers anyway. :) The hot peppers I was growing were red Portuguese peppers, IIRC. Tomatoes will still produce plenty in partial shade, although it definitely helps if you go for cherry tomatoes rather than full-size tomatoes. Look at the cute!

My beans weren't crazy productive, but I'm pretty sure that was because I put them in an improper container. I'm going to try again this year with a deeper container. As long as you give them a trellis or something to climb, I'd definitely give beans a try.

Best of luck with your garden! I think I'm going to miss this year... I would normally be planning a big one now, but instead I am going to try to plan a house-selling one. I'll have to live vicariously through others.
