N just called from outside the vet (which opened moments ago). Bastian is still among the living. They had him on IV fluids all night. The test results haven't come back yet and N is going to call them in a couple of hours to check and see if we can find out more information

Awww don't beat yourself up. You did what was right when you found out there was a problem. Thats all ya can do. I hope he is ok.

Sweetie, I can understand the guilt thing - I've been fighting it too. But I really don't think it's our fault... He didn't seem sick, in any identifiable way, up until yesterday. Maybe there were some kind of subtle signs that someone really well-versed in cat health might have seen, but I don't think we missed anything that the average cat owner wouldn't have also missed. We are not bad cat-owners - just normal cat owners, which means caring, but not as knowledgeable as we could be, probably.

Maybe there is more we can learn, so that we can be more alert to any health problems developing in other pets. I'd like to try. But even so, that doesn't mean that we are bad, or that this is our fault.

You guys are excellent cat parents. You didn't do a thing wrong. You're the responsible caring pet people every kitty would like. Seriously. There's never been anything visually wrong with Bastion all the times I've seen him - apart from being a giant, which is normal for him.
