We have to take Bastian into the vet today. We're pretty sure he has an impacted hairball. He's been trying quite unsuccessfully to cough up hairballs all day long. He's quiet and when he does meow, it's plaintive in a way that is not usual for him. He's not purring. For any of you who have met him, you know this is odd

Always. Same for Sumalee? So far the hairball goo is helping her...but i'm afraid when we decrease the hairball goo in two days (she has to be on the highest dose for 3 days, sayeth the box, then decrease to half the dose times only 2-3 days a week), she'll relapse. *sigh* And we just can't put her through a whole course of invasive and painful tests, not just because money's tight (we could manage routine care, but not emergency vet bills) but because she's been through too damn much of that in her 7 years.
