Just awoke from a Very Cinematic dream about the return of the bubonic plague. It came from the West this time, spreading East. My dream took me to middle America and to Russia. There were beautiful trees and forests, but all the animals in my dream (several pigs, a couple of birds, rats and dogs) were either bloated and dead or swelling and dying

Well, there are regular reported instances of bubonic plague in parts of New Mexico. Apparently it never quite died out there. So it's possible.
