Communal living and intentional communities: what can you offer?

So the idea of living in a commune, or rather, forming a small intentional community has, recently and once again, been dangled in front of my hippie-wannabe face, and it got me thinking: If I lived in an intentional community, what would I do? What niche would I fill ( Read more... )

there are positives and negatives, so dont think i would want to be in one that was closed or cut off from society. i think intentional commnity happens anyway, in who you choose to associate with, so there are good possibilities for extending that into a lifestyle. however, most peopl who choose to create that, consiously, end up encountering difficulties in group dynamics. so, i would rather it be something that just sort of happens, and that people move in and out of freely, when it is or is not right for them.

or something. i dont know if i have any great practical skills though. i can cook sometimes, and thats fun. im not very service- or craft- or people-oriented. i live too much in my head. i like to learn skills, but don't necessarily follow through. i can take care of kids pretty good, but in an intentional community, i'd expect child-rearing to be pretty communal too.

so i think my real limit would be to be a part of some kind of co-op artists space, but go home at night.
