To Nano or not to Nano? That is the question.

My friend Heather, who is an anthropologist and has had two children, tells me that after childbirth a woman's body produces hormones that cause her to actually forget the pain of labor to some extent, in order to keep her from being discouraged from having more kids ( Read more... )

At least if you get bored with one of your plots halfway through, you can have a character from one of your other plots wake up and go "I've just had the weirdest dream!" and then carry on with that new plot, lol.

Do it. Join the insanity. I mean, I'm clearly off my nut, so you'd be in good company. ;)

there aren't really any hormones that can make you forget something hurt. the absolutely amazing amount of endorphins, adrenaline, and dopamine produced during labour and childbirth do other interesting things to the brain, though, including acting as natural pain relief and sort of painting a rosy glow on everything. i very clearly remember exactly how much pain i was in whilst bringing gwendolyn into the world... but i also remember just how strong and capable my body was, and what a rush the whole experience turned out to be. woo, hormones!

According to both Heather and some web sites I've looked at, the oxytocin does tend to have a sort of amnesiac effect with regard to the pain, but I won't dispute that an individual's mileage could vary! :)

But the metaphor still works in my head. I did something, it was grueling and demanding, yet here I am waxing nostalgic about it! And I have to admit that the feeling of having written a novel was pretty delicious. Even as much of a pain in the ass as it was.
