Indeed, your memory serves you right. I started and then more-or-less gave up on this project a couple years ago. I was using the version of RPG Maker for PS1 that was released in the US - I'm not sure exactly what version that corresponds to in the Japanese releases. It was, of course, all 2D tile-based; it contained the example game "Gobli's Quest", if that helps. And yeah, the memory restrictions were a pain - simply making a single custom sprite used up one of the 15 memory slots on a PS1 card.
My progress was roughly as far as making several characters with equipment and attacks, and making an (obviously stylised) map that included parts of the quad, the pit, and entrances to Dey, Carrol, and the Union, as well as a partial interior of Dey with our beloved original room Dey 113.
Anyway... *somewhere* I have a text document with my notes and ideas for the game. If I can lay hands on it, I'd be happy to share in exchange for a small credit. ^_-
>If I can lay hands on it, I'd >be happy to share in exchange >for a small credit. Consider yourself so credited. ^_^ Looks like they worked out a better memory system in the later editions. I`m using edition 5 for the PS2, and I`ve already made about 25 sprites, 20 items, 80 magic/tech skills, and a couple of custom visual effects for weapon impacts, and there`s bags of memory to spare. Now my only problem is working through the Japanese for making scripts and events... ^_^; If you get any other random ideas, feel free to share. ^_^

Bonus points if it has an American Flag attached to it.
