Flip The Sun - Update

Any day now.  The northern "bald spot" (area where the magnetic field is below the surface of the sun, a "Coronal Hole") is now almost down to the equator on both sides, and the equatorial line of the main magnetic field ("Helmet Streamer Belt") is starting to dip below the south pole.  Magnetic pole reversal is imminent.  Why is this NOT being ( Read more... )

I prefer the term Coronal Hole to "bald spot" f.y.i.

So do I, but not all who read this may be comfortable with the level of technical jargon I am capable of generating. Some people have described their reaction to technical, scientific, and mathematical writing as "it turns into a buzzing sound" or "it sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher" and when they run into this, it turns them off immediately. So I've learned to always give such terms an alternative descriptive that gives the right feel for the process when I think I have an audience that will benefit from it.
