Sugar Rush is a 2005 British series; it tends to get mentioned in the same breath as Skins and South of Nowhere as an exemplary series for lesbian teen portrayal, so I finally got around checking it out.
I'm only on the third episode, but so far I like it. A little better than Skins actually. It's uneven in places, particularly the drama

I was disappointed in Skins too--that was probably inevitable after it was talked up to me as The Greatest Portrayal of Lesbian Teenagers Ever.
There was just something about the tone of Skins that bugged. It would veer wildly back and forth between small, realistic teen emotion and over the top cartoonishness (comic relief evil parents! Cook incites a riot and everyone burns cars but this is never mentioned again!) that I had no idea what they were trying to do.
There's still unevenness in this story, and it's not a great series in terms, but it doesn't give me whiplash quite the same way. I think it helps that this series is, so far, trying to juggle far less characters than Skins did. It's Kim's story, and I really like that.
