Stonehenge

I took the day off today to go on a special guided tour of Stonehenge and some of the associated monuments. It meant getting up at 6am and driving through the dark, dark night to Wiltshire, so we could go inside the stone circle before it opened to the public.

Brrrrrrrr, it looks cold! I found myself rather underwhelmed when I visited Stonehenge. Maybe if I'd got to go right up to the stones I'd have felt differently. I was more moved by Old Sarum that I visited later in the day. The countryside is so pretty around there.

I think I got an awful lot more out of it with a guide than I could have extracted myself - and doing the other sites to give Stonehenge context helped a lot as well.

After I visited Stonehenge a few years ago I brought back my brother a tiny souvenir trilithon. He immediately started laughing and I knew what he was thinking and I told him to be sure not to trod on it. :P

47 - we divided into two groups with a guide each, and I rather promiscuously moved between the two depending on what they were doing at the time. (And latterly depending on how sheltered the place they were standing was, and who was going to get back to the cars first...)
