I like your Firefly thoughts. It's interesting to me that you have the same problem with Inara that I have with Angel: there's no way I buy all that "wisdom and experience" from you, you look like an angsty, Sarte-quoting college student. *g* I didn't really have that problem with Inara myself, maybe because I saw through her act from the start.
I didn't and don't mind the Chinese, although I could wish it was easier for the actors. You're right that there should be more Asians about; one hopes the movie will include some. I find it sort of problematic that Simon and River's last name is "Tam" yet their whole family is obviously caucasian. I was vaguely disgruntled through the whole show that they hadn't cast Asian-American actors in the roles.
I still don't see Mal/Jayne or Mal-Zoe, but I think it's because I see Mal-Serenity so strongly. *g* He's like Captain Kirk: married to his ship.
UMD is for University of Maryland, the college basketball team I root for, and which occasionally rips out my heart and stomps on it with its little turtle feet. Yet I remain a loyal fan. Sigh

Yes, the hyphen signifies het. I got it from Te ages ago (and I don't know that she even uses it anymore), because it made sense to me: if slash originated with the "/", then how can a "/" signify het? Het should have its own punctuation mark!
Of course, it does feel a little like I'm getting obsessive with labeling, too. *g* I dunno, I like the clarity of it.
