Rage!

So, I made the mistake of opening mail before going to bed last night. Among them was a bill for $200 from my dentist. I got a couple of fillings done last month, but I'd paid my $80 copay at the time. I figured it was just a billing mistake, along with the $20 they said I owed from the visit in October. So, I called my dental insurance company. ( Read more... )

::huggle:: It will be okay. Promise. Also, you've already switched your insurance, so you won't have to deal with this again, so yay for that. Also, ::huggle::

You might be able to argue with the dentist about paying the uncovered stuff. If you asked or inquired as to what was covered before you got the fillings, and they gave you the more expensive stuff, they are responsible for the difference. My mother did this with success with some dentist a few years back, when her office tried to charge Mom several hundred but had dealt with Mom's insurance company before and so knew what they would and wouldn't have covered. I get the uncomfortable feeling that most dentist's office probably use the nicer stuff with the higher profit margin knowing full well that insurance companies rarely pay for all of it.

I called them today and was like WTF? and their response was that a) the crappy silver fillings are outdated and unused and they don't know why insurance companies won't cover them anymore and b) the insurance company says that they 'cover fillings' and then later with the EOBs they find out that they don't.

I called the insurance company yesterday and they say that without pretreatment estimates, you can never be 100% sure what you're paying, and essentially, to suck it.
