Vic's violence is very much in character - so is Sam's unwillingness to see him for the thug that he is.
THis feels better paced than the first half and I like it a lot.
I'm slightly dubious about Sam's ability to fight with broken ribs - I think the movies make us unaware of just how painful (and dangerous) it is to move with that kind of injury. Punctured lungs are high on the list...
Thanks for the comments. I agree about the pacing, I prefer to write movement and action rather than deep thoughts, which probably shows in the writing. Ref the ribs - you're right, right, right and I'm kicking myself now cos I could've written a whole angsty bit about Sam puncturing a lung...(sigh - missed opportunities...*grins*)
Too much deep thought can result in the writer 'telling' rather than 'showing'. When you have the ability to convey the thought via action and dialogue (which you seem to be able to do) to tell the reader too much of the character's motivation via thought can come across as a bit patronising to the reader.
Punctured lung would result in him drowning in his own blood. Certainly angsty, but maybe not with enough time for all the stuff with Ruth!
Nice ending there. I like the way it was brought round to the flowers at the start.
This fic has really got me thinking about Vic Tyler's other life. I'm wondering if he ever gets himself another family - or if anything he does affects the modern day time line, or if he kept in contact with Ruth - but she kept it from Sam.
I watched Ep 8 again today and I can't help feeling for Vic, even though I know he's really just a scumbag (*g). I wouldn't be surprised if Vic did get in touch with Ruth at some point and that she did keep it from Sam. Who knows?
I'd like to know how Vic got to be like that. Was he like that when he first met Ruth, or did he just hide it well. Ruth is a very noble and honest person - she has values etc. I wonder if that was what attracted Vic, she was someone he could never be.
I wonder if we will have a redemption of Vic in a future episode? After all Sam can meet him again without any consequences to Little Sam.
Maybe all Vic really wanted to do was give his family the best things in life, and that's how he got corrupted. He was certainly well on the way to the dark side when he was arrested.

That's actually a really good point. Adult Sam could meet Vic again without any repercussions to young Sammy. Oooooh, all sort of ideas are winging round my brain now.
*Claps* That was brilliant! I really wasn't expecting the begining, and I was on the verge of tears most of the way through. A fantastic ending - Loved it! ^^
You're very kind. I wanted Sam to get together with his mum and dad, one last time.... you just have to love the poor boy's misguided sense of family don't you?
Awh I know, I was shouting at the screen 'Ruth please figure out it's Sam!' but to no avail, *wipes away tear*, Really lovely writing, and the dandelions was a lovely touch ^^
Aw thanks! I'll admit I let the muse do it's own thing on this one. Ruth wrote herself into the plot and I surprised myself when Vic pulled the gun out. *grins* Don't you just love it when the fic writes itself!
