Technology Fail

It looks as if my relatively newly acquired scanner is utter crap. Yes, I've had it for months, but I haven't used it all that often... and now it looks as if it was always crappy, comparing the result I'm getting this evening with scans that I did in January (when I first got the scanner). Yeah.
I have an improvised light box, but the light I'm using for it is too yellow. I may have to go out and buy a proper photographic light.

The other problem with my improvised light box -- and it would be a problem for any light box I had, really -- is that I don't have a good place to put it where I can stick my camera on a mini-tripod so that it is steady. The place where it lives currently, it fits there, but there is no space in front of it to put the tripod. I could put the whole setup on the dining room table, but then I'd have to keep moving it, and that would increase the hassle, and I'm trying to decrease the hassle. (ponders rearranging the desk in my study, which will have more room on it when I remove the scanner) Hmmm.

If you are tech savvy enough the scanner will have a good light source that may fit the bill. If it useless as a scanner it could be McGyvered into a lamp.
