They are actually doing a Serenity comic. My brother put me back the first issue at work. I can bring it down if you would like to read it this weekend.

As for a Firefly manga/anime, there is always Outlaw Star. Complete with a girl in a box!

Yeah, I seem to remember Merry going off on how they ripped off some things from Outlaw Star a few years back...
