Freedom?

While out driving this past weekend, I had a bunch of time to just ponder things. One item that crossed my mind, in thinking about the London bombings, 9/11, current events and traveling over some of the general routes up over the Shenandoahs, through Kentucky and into the Ozarks, as many pioneers had before me, is there seems to always be a ( Read more... )

Terrorism was actually a normal technique at the time of the American revolution - some of our earliest law is based on revolting against the UK using guerilla tactics, including sabotaging rail lines (tactics we used against each other in the civil war). The idea that things have changed so radically that we are now 'forced' to give up those rights the founding fathers fought for is um...radical.

The easy example, of course, is the Boston Tea Party.

As far as the tactics, how else does a small, poorly equipped force stand any sort of chance against a larger, well financed, well trained, well supplied force, other than to resort to such? It isn't like you can send Ben Franklin over to curry support for your cause any more.

Again though, what "Freedom" are we, the large well supplied folks these days, preserving here? Are we afraid that fanatics with religious agendas will taking over our government? Are we afraid that we'll lose the ability to have our votes counted and heard?
