I realized a couple minutes ago that I object to the GNU/Hurd project on the grounds that it seems primarily to exist out of spite, despite the fact that the Linux kernel has accomplished basically all of its goals except that it, I don't know, isn't a microkernel.
Some people don't like that, I guess.

But yeah - as we talked over IM, there's more to the great kernel vs. microkernel debate than a little bit of ram. Heck, even a non microkernel can load/unload drivers dynamically as modules - Linux already does that. You don't need to compile support for this or that driver in. I'm not sure about Solaris or BSD, but I think they also handle most drivers with kernel modules as well.
