The lead developer of Exalted has stated in the forums that while no such announcement will ever be printed, in his view of creation Kejak is in fact the ONLY exalt with essence 10.
I had noticed while rereading the DB core that they seem to be backing off on Mnemon being a demon sorcerers who is stealing the life force of the world bit, kinda disappointing. I really look forward to getting my hands on this, 1st ed never got around to publishing any character pieces that weren't solar or dragon blood.
Like I said, with the Empress coming back, they needed to not have an Empress-clone walking around, but it does make Mnemon a less interesting character (and means there are two Roseblacks, motivation-wise).
I haven't scrounged around to find the Scavenger Lands book, but the wiki article on Karal calls her "her" so unless they changed everything for this release, it's possible we just missed a pronoun or something. That said, I'm going to go look her/him/it up in 1st Ed and see what's up with that.
~I really want to read about Risa. I never felt justified liking her because I didn't know enough about her (aside from the fiercely loyal to Dace part and justifiably untrusting of others part).
~I have a THEORY about the Infernal Exalts. They KNOW they are in a White Wolf game. To be more specific, they know they are in a White Wolf game that (unlike many other high fantasy games) doesn't borrow most of its cultures from western europe. So because the Infernals hate Creation (and by extension, the game Exalted) they are thumbing their noses at everyone by having among their number a beserker Scotsman, a Catholic slut-nun and a swashbuckling pirate captain.
In short, Captain Gyrfacon is playing 7th Sea because he wants to inflict a screwy mechanics system on Creation. :D
She's in some of the novels, but they don't really go into her backstory, either. This book does, and while her excuse for throwing her towel in with Dace is a bit flimsy, the rest of her story is pretty interesting.
Infernals: "Take some poorly-edited rules, Exalted! We don't even have a perception skill! And good luck killing me in combat! Ha ha, I have a Panache score and you don't!"
I can definitely see it. It's just meta and bizarre enough for the Malfeans to try.
I believe the justification for weakening most of the sig characters is that it's a hell of a lot easier for an ST to power up a statted NPC by adding charms/spells/martial arts styles to suit the power level of his/her party than it is to weaken a statted NPC to suit the power level of the party.
Also: I love Captain Gyrfalcon, and he is my hero. Slash villain. Whatever. The answer to your question is "he has Adorjan's charms favored, is a Scourge, and is thus BATSHIT CRAZY." He has apparently modelled himself after the villains from Haslanti pulp dramas. Seriously, they talk about pirates who steal Emeralds and are suspiciously well-equipped and always have some secret badass pirate-base and dark magic in all the Haslanti plays. Says so in the North Book.

And Karal should not be a girl.
