Cheeseburgers and Pie (Epilogue)

Months Later

Castiel comes home from the longest day at the hospital to a message on his answering machine. He presses play and walks to the kitchen to search the fridge.

“Hey, Cas, uh, this is Dean. Dean Winchester. So, I was wondering, Kansas has their first home game this weekend and I’m staring at a pair of tickets one of Sam’s friends mailed to him. Sam and Luci are out of town though, doing something I can’t really remember what. Anyway, I have enough points with the airlines to fly out and see it if you want to I don’t know, meet up? God this sounds lame, whatever. Just call me or text me if you wanna make plans. Talk to you then, bye.”

Castiel’s stomach flips at the prospect of seeing Dean again and he immediately grabs his cell to send Dean a reply.

Yes, that sounds wonderful. - C

Moments later he gets a reply: Sweet, hey, I was wondering, could I stay at your place? I don’t trust hotels, man. - D

Without even thinking Castiel responds: Of course, see you Friday? - C

Definitely - D

Castiel smiles and puts his phone back in his pocket. He turns back to the fridge and grabs his leftover Chinese food from two nights ago. He sniffs it and decides it will do before plopping down on the couch and playing his Tivo of the Dr. Sexy marathon.

Friday doesn’t come fast enough and as he sits outside the airport waiting for Dean he thinks about the weekend ahead of them. So far, being ‘just friends’ with Dean has been going well. At least as well as he could hope for. He still feels like a lost puppy sometimes, pining over a man hundreds of miles away, but it hasn’t gotten in the way of their friendship. He’s kept a strict ‘don’t think about having sex with Dean’ policy. But to be honest, as soon as he catches sight of Dean’s smile from through the glass doors he throws it out the window. One weekend hadn’t killed them before, so why not?

Dean runs up to him and hugs him firmly, lifting Castiel off the ground slightly. When he finally sets Castiel back on the ground, Castiel leans up and kisses Dean. Dean breaks the kiss, panting slighlty, “hello to you too,” he smiles.

“Shut up and get in the car,” Castiel orders playfully as he turns back to the driver’s side. Dean smacks his ass as he walks away which makes Castiel yelp. He turns back to Dean and gives him a sharp glare but Dean only smiles wider as he ducks into the car.

They don’t make it to the game that night, but it turns out that Dean had lied about the tickets. Castiel tries to be annoyed with him but it’s hard to be annoyed with anyone when they’ve got your dick in their mouth.

Dean wakes up the morning after stretching out on Castiel’s bed to the smell of pancakes and bacon. He grabs a pair of sweats from his bag and pulls them on before heading down to the kitchen. Halfway down the stairs he hears Houses of the Holy echoing from the kitchen. As he gets closer he can make out Castiel’s voice singing softly. He stops at the doorway to the kitchen and leans against the frame. He smiles widely as he watches Castiel dance in front of the stove mumbling the words as he flips the pancakes and bacon. He remembers when he first bought Castiel this record. He hadn’t stopped playing it for weeks. He came here on a whim, hoping he could change Castiel’s mind about them. Last night was a start, but he still isn’t sure what the future holds. Right now he doesn’t care about the future, all he cares about is watching Castiel bob his head along to the rhythm of the tune, flipping pancakes and being exactly what Dean has always needed.
