Typewriter!

As those of you who keep eager tabs on my Facebook status will know, I just unearthed my typewriter from the attic. I've had it for at least 15 years, and I doubt very much that it was new when I got it. It's certainly spent at least five of those in the loft. It's missing a couple of keys, G and N. Oh, I quite agree. Doing one with a decent computer accounted for the sanity of me and at least a handful of close friends.

There's something about typewritten prose though, for me - I feel like a typewritten word is worth more, because it's much harder to get rid of a paragraph or a word or a page so you have to put a bit more thought into your writing. I'm looking forward to working with it again :o)

I'm in awe of scientists in the '60s and '70s who did excruciatingly intricate calculations on slide rules (which, nine times out of ten, I also prefer to a calculator), tabulated the results manually and then typed the results up (or had them typed). Patient, patient people.
