A little while after their run-in with Cristina, Callie silently entered their bedroom, expecting to see Arizona bustling around putting things away. Instead, she found that the remaining boxes were piled in the corner, evidently for another day’s work, and her girlfriend sitting on their bed, facing away from the door.
She quietly closed it behind her, watching the woman closely. “Zona?”
Arizona hurriedly wiped away a few stray tears that had fallen down her cheeks. “Sorry, I, uh...got sick of unpacking and figured the rest of it could wait until tomorrow. I’m tired.” She sat holding the framed Service photograph of her brother Aaron, his medals mounted next to it beneath the glass covering.
She had forgotten that it had been packed away ever since she’d moved to Seattle.
Callie hesitated for a moment before slowly walking towards the bed. “What have you got there?” she asked softly as she took a seat next to her girlfriend.
Arizona sniffed, reaching up to swipe at her cheeks with the back of her wrist. “Aaron,” she replied quietly. She placed her hand back on the framed photo, gently brushing her thumb along his face. “My baby brother.”
Callie's dark brow furrowed. “I thought you guys were twins?”
Arizona smiled sadly. “I'm two minutes and seventeen seconds older than him.”
The brunette found herself smiling in return. She glanced down at the framed photo. “He was very handsome.” She could see the similarities between the two siblings without having to look very hard.
Arizona sighed. “Yeah,” she agreed as she continued to run her thumb along his face. “He really was.”
Callie glanced back up before closing the short distance still between them to pull the blonde into a hug. She held her close, pressing her lips to her girlfriend's temple.
Arizona closed her eyes and allowed herself to melt into Callie’s arms. She didn’t break down and cry; she’d done enough of that over the years. She just took comfort in her girlfriend’s warm and loving embrace, and the way she smelled so damn good right now.
A long, comfortable silence passed between them. Arizona slid her free arm around Callie’s waist while the other tucked the photograph again her stomach. She turned her face and burrowed into her girlfriend’s chest. “I’m glad we’re moving in together.”
Callie smiled softly. “Me too, baby,” she whispered. “Me too.”
***
“Calliope!”
Callie suddenly jerked awake with a hard, snorting grunt. She barely managed to lift her head from the pillow. “Mmh?”
Arizona nudged her in the side once more. “You were snoring.” She fell back down onto her side of the bed. “Again.” She turned her head to the brunette. “Loudly.”
Tired brown eyes slowly blinked.
“Was not,” Callie protested in a hoarse, sleep-filled voice. “Stop hitting me.”
“Stop snoring,” Arizona snarked back in an exhausted, desperate tone. She dropped her head face-first into the pillow. “Sleepy.”
Callie growled and rolled over to face away from Arizona, grabbing the blanket and yanking.
Pretty much the whole thing went with her, leaving Arizona uncovered and suddenly cold.
The blonde’s eyes snapped open and she growled under her breath. Rolling over herself, she grabbed the object and gave it a hard tug back.
They’d only been ‘officially’ living together for a few days now, and despite months and months of prior sleeping in the same bed, things were suddenly…noticeable. Things that, some how, neither of them had noticed before.
“What are you? Like, seven?” Callie shot back as her body was roughly jerked by the hard pull on the blanket. She kept a firm grip on the material, not daring to be the first to give in.
Noticeable, indeed.
Arizona yanked hard on the blanket again.
The sudden shift was too much for Callie's tired body to withstand when the material was roughly pulled out from beneath her. She let out a yelp of surprise as her body was sent flailing over the edge of the bed to land hard on the floor.
Arizona turned her head lazily, watching the edge Callie had tipped over.
For about two or three seconds, before pulling the blanket snuggly back around herself and rolling over onto her other side.
She had worked twenty one freakin’ hours, half of it spent researching the parasitic twin surgery, and had another two or three left to sleep before going into the hospital again.
She would get some sleep if it killed them both.
Callie's hand appeared over the edge of the bed to grip against the mattress a second before her head popped up after it. Dark eyes leveled a glare on the blonde's back.
Living together was turning out to be just...so much fun.
***
Bailey jumped when a file folder slammed down hard onto the counter in front of her. She glanced up, phone still pressed to her ear, eyebrow ticking impatiently.
Callie sighed heavily as she reached up to rub a hand across her forehead. “I need sleep.”
“I do not need to know the reasons behind you being so tired,” Bailey very quickly stated. “I’ve literally seen enough already to know that I don’t want to know.”
Callie just moaned and dropped her forehead, her body threatening to fall asleep while she was standing up. “I hate this. Hate, hate, hate it. I miss sleep. I haven’t slept in three days, Bailey. Three days. I’m actually contemplating coming in on my day off just to have a nap in the on-call room.”
Miranda arched a slow, calculated brow. “What is she? Some kind of animal or something?”
Callie's brow furrowed for a second before her brown eyes suddenly widened. “No!” she shouted a little too loudly, letting out a nervous laugh.
"Mm-hm," Bailey murmured skeptically.
“It's not that,” Callie hissed. "In fact, it's the opposite of that.”
Bailey opened her mouth to respond when she heard a voice finally come through from the other end of the phone line. “Uh, yes, this is Dr. Miranda Bailey at Seattle Grace Hospital...”
Callie sighed with disinterest as she watched Bailey turn away to continue her conversation. Her shoulders slumped and she pouted again.
She really, really needed some sleep.
***
It was two hours, three patients and a consult later before Callie was finally able to stumble into the nearest on-call room. She had never been so happy to see a bed in her entire life.
“Oh, I love you,” she moaned as she paused just long enough to kick off her shoes before falling face first onto the hard mattress.
Being a bunk bed, Callie had forgotten to check the top.
Arizona jerked awake when the bed frame suddenly jolted beneath her, moaning in protest.
Her on-call room. Hers. She found it first.
Callie heard the moan and sighed. She hadn’t noticed another body on the top bunk, she’d been too freakin’ tired. “Hello?”
Arizona stuck her head over the top edge as Callie peered out from the bottom.
There was a moment of silence, and then…
“Seriously?”
There was a slight pause as both women just stared each other down.
“It's mine!” they both shouted simultaneously once more.
Callie pouted. “Arizonaaa,” she whined. “It's not fair. You kicked me outta bed last night. I think I deserve it more.”
Arizona's blue eyes widened. “Only because you wouldn't stop snoring!”
Callie slapped her hand down hard against the frame. “I do not snore!”
A tense silence once again fell over the room.
“Callie, I swear to god if you don’t move your cute little ass out of that door, I’m gonna…”
“Oh,” Callie’s eyes widened and she stood up, nearly meeting Arizona’s eye line, but not quite. “Oh, you’ll what? Smother me with a pillow?”
Arizona’s gaze narrowed and she sat up on the top bunk, glowering down at her girlfriend. Her eyes were bloodshot from pure exhaustion, and nearly half crazed with desperation for some sleep. “Starting to sound like a good idea! Maybe if I did, that God forsaken noise would stop coming out of your throat and I could get some sleep for once!”
“Keep talking, Roller Girl! Sleeping with you lately has been as much fun as playing leapfrog with a unicorn!” Callie shouted back.
Arizona's eyes narrowed once more. “Is that some kinda...Freudian penis reference? A-are you really this upset because I won't-”
“For fuck's sake, no!” Callie broke in with another shout. “For the millionth time, no! I don't wish you had a penis!” She paused to take in a much needed, calming breath. “Look, Arizona,” she started softly. “I'm upset because I haven't slept more than two hours straight in the last three nights.”
Arizona kept glaring.
“I haven't slept more than two hours consecutively in the last three nights,” Callie quickly corrected. “So, yeah,” she added after a moment. “Little upset here.”
“You think I’ve slept any more than you have? We spend more time ripping the blankets to shreds and shoving each other around than we do actually sleeping.” Arizona swung her legs over the edge of the top bunk and buried her face in her hands. If she wasn’t careful, she might just fall asleep at the wrong time and pitch forward.
Maybe then she’d knock herself out…
“What happened? We never had this many issues before! You snored occasionally and I found it endearing and kind of cute, not…louder than a freight train being driven by Rosie O’Donnell.” Arizona was beyond exasperated by this point, and she gave Callie a desperate, pleading look.
“I don’t exactly remember you fidgeting every three fucking seconds either, but hey, guess what? You do!” Callie shot back, her own eyes bloodshot and narrow.
Arizona groaned and fell backwards onto her bed again.
Callie remained standing next to the bunks as she watched her lover's exasperated form fall heavily onto the blankets. Then she hung her head and sighed.
They were so screwed.
***
It was half past midnight before Callie was able to slip her key into the lock of their apartment.
She released a heavy sigh as she pushed the door open and stepped inside. She barely had time to turn and close it behind her before she heard soft footsteps approaching.
Brown eyes glanced up just as Arizona stepped into the living room. Her hair was damp from a shower and her pajamas were sticking to her body in various places.
Despite everything that had happened in the last few days or so, Callie still thought she looked fucking...delicious. She shook off those thoughts as she dropped her bag to the floor and then softly cleared her throat. “I was hoping we could shower together,” she began softly as she met blue eyes.
Arizona instantly smiled. Tiredly, but a lot more friendly-like than before. “I wouldn’t be against another ‘rinse and repeat’.”
The blonde padded over to her girlfriend and helped her shrug off her leather jacket. She automatically put it to her nose and inhaled deeply, loving the mixed scent of leather and Callie Torres, before hanging it up on the coat rack for her. “I was starting to worry you wouldn’t be getting home at all tonight.”
Callie sighed. “Me too,” she admitted as she closed her eyes. She reached up to place a hand on the back of her neck, trying to massage a bit of the tension away.
Three nights of restless sleep coupled with three days of fifteen hour shifts were not doing very much for her physical or emotional well-being.
Callie jumped a little when she felt her girlfriend's smooth, gentle hands reach up to push hers out of the way.
That was a definite good start in the right direction.
“Mmm,” the brunette moaned in appreciation, leaning a little into the warm, soft touch. “That feels amazing.”
Arizona stepped behind the other woman and expertly worked her fingers against the knotted muscles in her neck and shoulders. “Poor baby,” she said quietly, not at all teasing or patronizing, but completely genuine. “I was gonna stick around and wait to walk home with you, but Hunt told me you got pulled into a trauma and I figured you would be a while.”
Her fingers worked slowly, easily over the muscles, and never let up. A moment of silence passed before Arizona spoke again. “I’m sorry. For earlier. With the crankiness.”
“Mmm,” Callie moaned again, tilting her head to allow her lover's fingers more room to work. “Me too,” she murmured.
The gentle massage lasted a few more moments before Callie reached up to still her lover's hand. She slowly turned to meet deep blue eyes as their hands dropped down, fingers still entwined, and smiled a little. “I really do love living with you,” she said honestly as she gazed into those eyes she adored so much.
Arizona smiled at Callie. “I do, too.” She stepped into her girlfriend and tilted her head just slightly. “I love falling asleep next to you and then waking up the same way.” Her smile widened just a tiny bit. “We may need to work on the in-between, but we’ll be okay.”
Arizona dropped Callie’s hands only to circle both arms around her waist, pressing in close. “I got a pretty good offer on my condo. More than I thought I would. My agent works fast.” The blonde watched her intently. “It would be…more than enough to put a down payment down on a house, if we ever wanted to revisit that option again. Not necessarily now, there’s no rush, but…if we decide to in the future.”
As much as she was looking forward to someday having her own space with Callie, alone together, she understood her girlfriend loved this place and the people and activity that came with it. She’d be happy to stay as long as it made Callie happy.
The brunette smiled in return. “Someday,” she repeated just as softly before leaning in to claim her girlfriend's lips in a gentle kiss.
A house. A possible white picket fence. Maybe a dog or two.
Babies.
The woman she loved more than anything.
Things were definitely looking up.
***
“Calliope,” Arizona moaned uncontrollably as she arched up off the bed.
Their bed. Where there was no sleep being had at this particular moment.
Her fingers dug deeply into brown locks as her body shivered with her impending orgasm.
This was definitely better than the last three nights they'd spent in bed together.
Definitely.
Callie’s hands wrapped firmly around Arizona’s strong thighs, the only thing keeping her from being dislodged every time the blonde moved. She worked her tongue ruthlessly against Arizona’s core, never letting up even for a second to let either of them pull in a breath.
Arizona was pretty sure she had forgotten how to use her lungs, anyway. Her eyes remained firmly shut and her stomach tightened almost painfully as Callie’s tongue abused her. By now, she was so close that her whole body was shaking.
And Callie could feel it. How close she was.
The brunette pulled back just long enough to take a breath before diving back in again. She could feel her lover's thighs tensing in her grasp as she slowed the pace of her tongue.
“Calliope,” Arizona moaned again as her back arched almost painfully. She clenched her thighs around the well-placed head as she felt her muscles burning with the intensity of her impending release.
Callie held on the best she could, not daring to let up just yet. Her tongue glided directly against Arizona’s swollen clit and pressed down with each lick.
When she finally came, Arizona moaned out wordlessly, tightening one hand in Callie’s hair and the other against the pillow behind her head. Her whole body quaked, and she clenched her thighs tightly around Callie’s head.
Yeah, this was definitely a better way to spend the night, rather than fighting about who gets to sleep, where, and for how long.
As she came down from her high, Arizona was barely aware or able to see straight as she slowly sank back into the sheets, every muscle in her body suddenly turning into rubber or jello or...something equally as useless.
Callie slowly kissed her way up a quivering thigh. She felt another sharp jolt of arousal as the smooth, perfect muscle jumped and twitched beneath her lips.
Fuck. Arizona Robbins had to be about the sexiest woman on the entire planet. Universe, even. She just couldn’t get enough of her.
Callie released a deep sigh just as she reached her girlfriend's neck. “Like this way better than fighting,” she whispered huskily before placing a kiss on the smooth, sweaty skin. Her right hand slipped between the blonde's thighs to help stroke her through the last waves of her orgasm.
Arizona wasn’t feeling very coordinated at the moment, but she managed to tuck her right arm around the back of her lover’s neck and pull her in for a deep, satisfying kiss. She moaned softly at the touch between her legs, hips bucking up against Callie’s.
“For the record,” she murmured in between kisses. “I like…our bed…much better.” Smiling, Arizona pulled back. “Think it’s because we’ve worn it in much better than Yang’s was.”
Callie arched a pointed brow. “Arizona?”
“Hm?” the blonde replied with an airy, satisfied smile.
“Don't kill it.”
It instantly disappeared to be replaced by a cringe. “Sorry.”
Callie sighed as her smile slowly returned. She shifted her weight to rest on the left side of her body, but still didn't take her right hand from between perfect thighs. “Did I ever tell you how incredibly hot you are when you come?” she whispered huskily as she leaned down to latch her lips onto the underside of her girlfriend's jaw.
Way better than fighting.
If she hadn’t already been flushed and a little sweaty from Callie’s earlier actions, Arizona might have blushed. “A time or two,” she said with another lazy smile.
Her right hand slid up and around Callie’s back, where she very slowly dragged her nails across heated skin. “I ever tell you how incredibly hot you are, period?” With a soft chuckle, Arizona very sneakily trailed her hand down over the smooth curve of Callie’s ass.
Callie jerked a little at the touch. Her body was still a little riled up. “So we're both hot,” she smirked. “Think we can live with that.” The fingers resting between Arizona’s thighs slowly began to move again as she kissed her way to the shell of the blonde’s ear. “Best part about living together.”
Arizona grinned and suddenly pushed Callie onto her back, flipping their positions.
“The best is still to come.”
***
That night, they both slept incredibly well.
So well in fact, that Arizona came to the conclusion they would just need to have long, exhausting, amazing sex every night in order to sleep at all.
A fact which she pointed out to Callie the next day at work, when they were alone in the x-ray imaging room.
“It’s the best solution,” she added with a smirk, while she was busy putting x-ray and CT scan results of baby Isaac up for them to view on the light boxes lining the walls. “If we have sex, we both fall asleep too exhausted to move or breathe too much. Don’t know about you, but I slept better last night than I have in a week.”
Callie smirked as she reached up to adjust one of the scans. “Like a frikken' rock.” She glanced over at her girlfriend as her smirk shifted to become a bit more...seductive. She leaned towards her, though kept her eyes trained on the x-rays. “And that new little thing you did with your tongue?” She paused with a sexy glance back over her shoulder.
Arizona’s smirk widened, but she didn't take her eyes from the image directly in front of her.
Callie chuckled softly. “We should definitely have mind-blowing, exhausting, completely...amazing sex like that every night of the week.” She shifted a little uncomfortably in her scrubs. They were hot and...confining.
“Definitely,” Arizona confirmed, her smirk never wavering. Without looking at Callie, she reached over and intertwined their fingers, squeezing her hand softly.
When Bailey came in two seconds later, at least they weren’t making out or half-naked for once.
Still, the shorter woman stopped with a sharply raised brow, eyeing them both. “For the love of…”
Arizona glanced over at Bailey, but didn’t drop Callie’s hand. Normally she wasn’t one for PDAs at work, unless they were in an on-call room, but…lately, she found herself just not caring.
They were happy. Finally happy. Everyone else could suck it.
But nobody tells that to Miranda Bailey and lives through the experience.
“Glad to see you’re on board,” Arizona told Bailey with a bright smile. “It’s gonna be a hell of a week preparing for his surgery, but I guarantee this is something you’ll probably never see again in your entire career.”
Bailey stared the blonde down before glancing over to Callie and then back again. “Mm-hm.” She didn't take her eyes from the couple she walked up right in between them. The move made the two lovers break their clasped hands as Bailey's body occupied the space.
Miranda frowned as she shifted her gaze to the x-rays lined up in front of them. She looked from one to the next. “This is...”
“Pretty frikken' awesome?” Callie piped up from her left side.
“Just ain't right,” Bailey mumbled to herself.
Callie didn't take her eyes from the wall. She reached out with her right hand behind Bailey's back.
Arizona held in her smile and reached out with her left, clasping Callie’s once more in mid-air.
“But pretty frickin’ cool,” she echoed her girlfriend’s sentiment.
