Many of us applauded the recent movement towards enhancing hate-crime legislation to include sexual orientation and identity. Some of us declare Victory! Look at this wonderful accomplishment. To be honest part of it was something I posted on DU and part of it was in response to someone I knew in HS going on a religious tear and then there was frustration from a rather slow moving president and the stupidity of Maine.

True. Though there are still hate crimes against racial minorities. Agreed, they are less these days (though I believe a flare-up has been going on in racial incidences (if not hate crimes) since the election (they may not be reported on as much, but they are there). And the 'outrage' is more defined when it does happen. And spot on about the 'otherization' of queer folk in legal matters when EACH citizen should be given the same consideration under the law; or what's the point of the law? Thanks for this.

There certainly is enough hate to spare sadly. The legislation as it was originally written wouldn't have been needed if it werent for that.

But yeah, your pretty much right about everything.
