I know the process varies state to state, but in MN it's pretty laid back: they send the letter, you fill out a form and mail it back, then the night before your month of duty you call a number and a pre-recorded message tells you what group numbers need to go in (if any) and when to call again. Here you can mail the jury duty form back saying why you can't do it and just get released without ever having to go in. My mom used to when my sister was really little, and I always do because I'm fucking deaf and there's no way I can follow a trial or discussion

By the time I'd be able to call I'd have to report in anyway but I'll remember that for next time. (And with my luck, there will be a next time
