Brigits_Flame May Entry 01 - Aspirations

May 09, 2009 16:56

Last night, I purchased a ukulele on the Internet.  It’s not like this is the sort of thing I do often; I’m not really an impulse-purchase sort of person, and I also didn’t think I’d ever buy a musical instrument without touching it first.  But it’s a uke.  And it was 25 bucks, plus shipping on eBay, and I figured - hell.   Why not?  I have just ( Read more... )

I have a feeling that the character here is you...kulele.

President, Youkulele. He tip toes through the tulips, the opium fields, and the hanging gardens.
He is assassinated by a woman very close to him.

In all seriousness, though, I'm reading futures again and looking for metaphysical guinea pigs.

Focus on your question and how the universe seems to you, then pick 15 numbers from 1 through 78.

Oh, no, seriously - this is true. I should have specified that this is non-fiction.

I used your numbers to draw from my deck (it is Crowley’s Thoth deck, but it is also MY deck) and must have missed a number somewhere. The 14 cards I put down were largely unhappy, so take my decision to redraw, mix with your decision to give me 20 twice, and take them how you will. I asked for 15 numbers because I’m using the English spread model, which separates the cards into 5 sets of three, left internal, center general, right external ( ... )

Word! Thanks, Z! I'll keep an eye out, and try not to be too condescending to my pupils.

If this IS non-fiction, I demand pictures of you with the uke.

I miss you.

I was recently suspended from editing (again) so I forgot that I'd be sent back to give feedback.

This was a blog, not writing, so I'm going to keep the cap on the red pen and chew on it while I try to talk about it.

Audio file forthcoming...

Hello, hello, I'm your other editor for this week :).

Your pieces always make me smile. I like how this was personal to you, and the light-hearted, humourous tone it was written in. My favourite line was probably the "I came, I clicked, I purchased" - it made me laugh. The headlines for president were pretty interesting too. I hope you and your sister have fun this summer, it sounds like a cool idea.

I've read through the piece a few times and I can't see any grammar or spelling errors. Looking forward to reading your week two entry :).

Haha thank you!

It's all true; if I get good at the ukulele I'll post a song or somethin', mayhaps.

Won't _that_ be fun to see.

Hi, I'm commenting for ROAR!
I have just enough disposable income to be irresponsible to the tune of $34. I liked this, and "I came, I clicked, I purchased".
Sorry, the part about Jack Johnson & Karl Rove just kind of flew over my head, so can't really comment on that.
"I also didn’t think I’d ever buy a musical instrument without touching it first." This really rings true, and I liked the phrasing. Not that, you know, the rest of your piece doesn't sound genuine, but I just liked that sentence.
(Sorry, total newbie at this...)
Thanks!

Thank you for ROARing! :)

Consider yourself thankful that you know not the creeping specter of death we Americans call Rove: the wrinkled pate, the crooked soul, the artful squint, the sunless hole.
