Brigits_Flame April Entry 04 - Reap

The Night Market in Siem Reap is wreathed with snakes in jars.  They seem to wriggle as Wally runs past the stalls.  The vendors call out, but he scarcely hears them.

“Hey-mister-hey-mister, get your cobra wine!  Get your cobra wine and please your lady tonight!”

“Fresh caw, mister!  Fall-apart pork!  Creamy egg!  Luscious broth!  The finest in ( Read more... )

PUN FOR THE WIN!

The vividness of the scene, too, is fantastic, and I love poor Wally.

Though he doesn't seem to be quite as helpless as he wants us to think, does he? XD

it's just so awful, innit?

I just figured everyone was going to do a Grim Reaper thing for this, and decided to go as far from that as possible.

This needs to be either a lot less or a lot more corny. If this is the first instance of such dumb luck on assignment it should be clarified as such.

I didn't flesh this out the way I hoped I'd have time for. You'll notice these last few entries have been short. It's because I'm writing ten-pagers for the end-of-term. I promise the next set in May will be longer and more in-depth.

OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! But clever in a punny way. Good luck.

Thanks, Michelle! There's some much better stuff out there this week than mine; I certainly hope I don't do as they do.

I didn't really mean for the pun to come in, but it happened nonetheless. This seems like one of those things where the pun would come first, but wouldn't you believe it? it actually _did_ come last, like the punchline it is.

You're too kind, Dani - I don't think this piece is all that good.

But!

Thank you very much! I'm glad I managed to evoke some hints of Cambodia, which is a place I'm probably unlikely ever to visit. But I've seen my share of street markets in a few countries, and I know about _some_ south asian things.

But I'm glad it sounds like it's a recognizable, real place!

thank you very kindly!

I'm from the US, but I've been to... lessee:
Mexico-Canada-Czech-republic-Hungary-Israel-Puerto-Rico..

I think that covers about that. And I was in street markets in pretty much every country except Canada. Because I was, like, in Vancouver.

Where I suppose they probably have street markets. But not, y'know, most of the time.

I just wanna say that I thought it was hilarious. XD

I didn't realize anything unforgivably corny had taken place until all the party-poopers started bringin' it up.

Of course, perhaps I am easily amused? Heehee... fun read, kender. Truly. :-)

Cheers!

I'm glad you didn't think it was -unforgivably- corny. but let's call a spade a spade, because it's an awful pun.

Glad you're enjoying yourself in our lil' community.
