I live in the heart of suburbia.My partner and I rent out a room in our house.My roommate tells me about the bathhouse down the street.WHAT?! It's probably a Hammam or Bania... and if it is, it's not the least bit "gay" - and I would suspect that they'd deal pretty harshly with anything but utterly appropriate behavior if it is...

Not sure. I want to talk to that friend who has gone there.There were a couple guys walking around and they certainly had that "vibe".But yeah I feel you.Either way it was very interesting.I'll let you know what happens when I go.

There's something similar outside Boston that profkampf turned me onto. I wasn't able to go when I was there last time, but it's website shows it to be a russian bathhouse, and nothing sexual is involved from what I've heard.

he heard about it on the travel channel, I think.

I work in a group home and i see the germs that build up in the bathrooms and showers there.. and those kids dont even fuck... I can only imagine what creepy crawlys are going down in a bathhouse

If its a Shvitz, I can only assume its either left over from the neighborhood being predominently jewish, or its an eastern european thing.

A shivtz is yiddish for a steam room. It was very common up for my grandparents generation and those before them to go to Shivtzes because in the early part of the 20th century most apartments were either cold water flats. Also it was a social hang out.
