This was a beautiful tale. Voronwë is one of my favorites elves, and I like your take on him. Nicely done.

Thank you! I must admit, I had never given the poor fellow much thought until I received this assignment, but after a few re-reads of the noted chapters in Unfinished Tales and the Silm, I decided I was quite smitten with him. Thanks for taking the time to read it! :)

Welcome! I really enjoyed the story.

Voronwë is really a sweet and gentle elf. There is more about him in the Home books. =)

Oh Kenaz, this is exquisite - a poetic jewel of heartbreaking devotion and unrequited love. I am breathless. I love Voronwe's voice and your language is so beautifully reminiscent of the Silm and yet uniquely your own.

"but the heart is a disobedient thing, and childlike in its hopes; it beats the tattoo of its own desires though the mind knows them to be fruitless"

God, that's good.

A chuil,

Thank you so much. I had quite a lot of fun with this piece, and re-reading the appropriate sections in the Silm and Unfinished Tales reminded me how formal Tolkien's style was in those works compared with LOTR or The Hobbit. It was a nice change/challenge to write in a more, well, for lack of a better word, *deliberate* fashion than I have with other pieces. I'm rather happy with how it came out!

This is absolutely gorgeous and heartwrenching. The language is breathtakingly beautiful; Voronwë's voice is thoroughly believeable and the world becomes real and tangible in your writing. Voronwë's unrequited devotion to Tuor breaks my heart.

In a story full of great imagery, these lines especially stayed with me:

"I do not believe I shall slumber again," he said. Then we fell silent; for night had come, and the stars shone white and cold.

and

And then one morning, the sky dawned the color of blood and fire, and my sea-heart seized, for every mariner dreads the morning that rises red. I will say no more of that day, nor of the days that followed; I do not think my soul can bear it. It is enough to say we lived, and live still. Too few can say even that.

Thank you for sharing! :)

Thanks... That second bit you quoted seemed to hit a lot of people. It's interesting to see how people respond to things-- I was afraid that bit would be seen as a cop-out because I wasn't discussing the fall of the city. I had considered it, but then decided that I couldn't write about that, because it would have utterly overshadowed the story I was trying to tell; best case scenario, it would have just made the story maudlin rather than hopeful.

Glad you enjoyed!
