I just wanted to say again how much I love this story. The relationship between Thraunduil and Haldir is heartbreaking and very real and emotional. It's easy to see both their points of view and the reasons for their choices, painful as they were. The interactions between Legolas and Thranduil are a treat too:

You’ve never suffered fools.”

“Only the one I’ve sired.

I love that.

This is filled with great descriptions and interactions throughout. The themes of sacrifice and redemption resonate deeply. Just an all around wonderful story.

Thank you for listening to me whine while it was in progress!! Like I told you, I've always wanted to write this pairing, but when I first came into the fandom, there was a certain vogue for Sadistic!Sex!Whore!Thranduil mastering I!Thought!I!Was!A!Top!Haldir, and I really, really, really wanted to avoid that dynamic. PJ's interpretation of him in the Hobbit films wasn't much help on that front. :(

I'm actually happy with the way it turned out, and I really like the relationship between Legolas and Thranduil. I think he knows more than Thranduil thinks...

I love hearing what people have in mind for their fics, and you always have such good ideas, it was a pleasure to be a sounding board on this. I loved how you worked in the wind chimes and how Thranduil's wife loved the sea and never got used to the forest. A beautiful, sad explanation for her absence. And the bright autumn leaves as Thranduil's first crown is a perfect touch. No, the films didn't do the Mirkwood Elves any favors. *sigh*

I remember some of those sadistic Thranduil stories, and everyone writing Haldir as "arrogant" because of the actor's look and snarky comments in the movie. You managed to sidestep the tropes and deliver something truly unique and wonderful. This is a story to be proud of.

Legolas being intelligent and shrewd is my favorite, he's so often written as weepy and/or passive, I love it when he's got it going on. :-)
