Intriguing premise!

One minor oops here: all access points to outside are too big for it to fit through, --I think you mean too small for it to fit through (ie: the machine is too big to fit through the access points)?

The beginning of this (about the machines and the textile factory) had a very Stephen King feel to it (I love that story, lol). Overall, a great piece that I enjoyed reading.

Nooo!!!! I don't want to bow down to our machine overlords . . which sounds like it MIGHT happen in this story.

Ha, "Rule number 1: Always treat your machine with respect. Give it the same attention you would your child, and it will do whatever you want without breaking down or unnecessary delays." I wish this worked for REAL machines in this day!
