I am delighted (and astonished) to announce that I will be attending the next Clarion Writers Workshop in San Diego this summer, from June 28 to August 8. I knew about this a while ago, but we weren't supposed to tell anyone until our names appeared on the Web site as the Class of 2009.

My seventeen fellow students are from as far away as Australia ( Read more... )

Thanks!

(And I noticed your name three spaces above mine on the WotF semifinalist list. Good going!)

Rock the heck on!

As a Clarion 2008 grad, I wish you all the best. It's gonna be awesome.

(I was the old guy in my group. Didn't hurt none.)

I was the top end for that year. I fully support us old fogeys of the sci-fi world getting in. *G*

I've noticed one or two of your classmates whining criticizing the food that was served at Canyon Vista. When I looked at the menu it seemed okay, and I figure that, with a salad bar and some way of getting protein that isn't swimming in grease, I'll do okay.

What was/is your view on this subject?

A couples of these writers I've read. Some I have not. Are all of these Sci Fi writers? I just wondered it case you have write stories in the that genre while you are there.

Holly Black wrote The Spiderwick Chronicles, and a lot of other good fantasy. Larissa Lai I would call a folklore-fantasy author. Robert Crais writes famous mysteries and thrillers. Kim Stanley Robinson is often called a "literary science fiction" author. He wrote the famous Mars trilogy, among other things. Elizabeth Hand writes literary fantasy and horror novels. Paul Park is an SF author.

Clarion is aimed at short stories in science fiction and fantasy, but students have been known to write in other genres while there.
