As far as Mike's article goes..."4th Edition is a lame tabletop MMO. 3rd Edition is for number-crunching losers. 2nd Edition is for setting junkies. 1st Edition is for people obsessed with polearms." That I agree with. D&D may have started it all, but once I discovered other games were out there I spent way more time playing those, because whatever edition of D&D you're talking about, it's not that great a game. The only reason I ever came back to it was because I got the chance to write for it.
I really resented 3.0 and the OGL for a long time. For years it was nigh impossible to find a good new non-d20 game, and several of the non-d20 games I liked from before tried to go all d20. The only good thing about 4th edition it that is has encouraged people to start playing and publishing other games again.
I'm going into irrelevant rant territory, so I'll just stop there. :)
