Facebook is great, but the person who thought of the inviting friends before being able to do certain things for applications ought to be shot. What weapon best suits my personality?? Go to Facebook's options and set the notifications so you won't receive any email messages anymore. It helps a great deal.

I completely ignore application invites. Waste of bloody time, really.

Facebook was so much better before they came up with the apps.
