If the person you ask REALLY loses short term memory, they won't get the joke; they'll just talk about something else instead...

That's horrible (and genius). You should send that to a TV show that does the random on the street interviews. See if they get a response like Tom's.

The only issue would be convincing them that you've discussed it in the past.
