I deserve to be dragged into a brush pile, too

I.  Feel.  AWFUL.

What a fucking way to go.

I took "my" bird out tonight for some fresh air.  He briefly flew towards the crepe myrtle bush, and my heart briefly and joyously took flight at the idea that he would certainly be well enough to go free soon.

He landed next to the bird bath.

I stooped to pick him up.

A feral cat beat me to it.

*hugs* You did nothing wrong. If you hadn't taken him in the bird would have been eaten by the feral cat days ago. My brother and I tried to rescue a baby squirrel once and when we put it back on the tree, it fell off and our dog darted out and half-broke the squirrel's neck. I had to have it euthanized at work because it was screaming and partially paralyzed.

Just... you don't deserve to be dragged into the brush pile. You did what you could for your little bird, and though I'm very sorry that he didn't make it... you tried, and sometimes that's all we can do in the face of the random.

that's so awful.
if it weren't for you, he'd have met the same fate but sooner.
you made the last days of his life very comfortable ... and who knows, maybe he escaped.
