I actually found him today, flopping around in the dried-out fountain in front of the water department. Apparently, waxwings are inherently tame--they'll even swoop down and randomly land on people! This guy's wing is wrenched--not broken (he can still flap it), but held at an odd angle. I think he smacked into the window at the water department.
At any rate, I brought him home and he LOVES me. Waxwings are social feeders--they like to feed each other, and he just sits on my finger and eats...and eats...and eats. Too bad raspberries are $3.50/pint!!
I think he'll be well enough to fly within the next week. He's certainly gotten his strength back within the past few hours!
I'm trying not to get attached...so many of my rescued birds die...but this one seems like he'll be alright. I kind of hope he sticks around after I release him. :)

Mike's parents used to bring in birds like that, and several lived for years as pets.
