Fun! I need to think about which books to get my 16- and 19-year-old daughters. One has never been a huge reader, and the other used to be, but really isn't anymore. Must get cracking!

My girls are 18 and almost 17, and I'm stumped for them as well. I'm actually considering getting Sir Richard Branson's latest for my elder daughter, since I think she'd agree with his philosophy, but I'm not certain she'd read it.

All outstanding choices! I can still recite the beginning of "Sheep in a Jeep":

Beep beep!
Sheep in a jeep
On a hill that's
steep.

That was one of the few board books I never got sick of.

Uh-oh, the car won't go . . .

Sheep shove, sheep grunt, sheep don't think to look up front . . .

I can't do the whole thing from memory, the way I can with some of the Boynton books, but I can recite a lot of the lines.

Your blog has resulted in two of my Christmas purchases for my godchildren - Charlotte Jane Battles Bedtime, and Press Here, both of which are good fun although I did wish for a stronger story resolution in "Charlotte Jane." I think my best friend's family is going to have fun with "formidable oomph," particularly as the child receiving the book has plenty of oomph of her own.

I am so pleased to hear this. I like to feel useful . . .

And now, a kitten-related question: for reasons known only to her, Kismet decided to pee on a chair cushion last night - one that she usually sleeps on. Besides putting her in the hoosgow (the upstairs bathroom, which contains her food and water as well as her litter box, plus one of her favorite playgrounds (the bathtub - who can say why?)), I've cleaned the stain up and used Nature's Miracle - is there anything else I can do? Should I assume it's a one-time error? Suspect a UTI? *is perplexed*

Isolating her in the bathroom with her box until she uses it is a good idea. I would think of it as a one-time thing, but if she does it again, a vet visit is always a good idea. After everything she's been through, a UTI is possible, especially if she's been using the box faithfully 'til now ( ... )

So a couple of weeks ago, I went to a baby shower, and the host had asked that in lieu of cards, we give a book that either we loved as kids or that our kids loved, with an inscription written in for the baby.
They ended up with 6 copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
Mine was number 4. =)

In retrospect, I'm kicking myself for not getting them a copy of "Little Chicken's Big Day," which is currently P's favorite. The text is all dialogue, so I have fun with the voices, and the illustrations are simple and adorable.

We have loved "Sheep in a Jeep" for years! It's also joined by "Frog in the Bog" and "Duck in a Truck" as consistent favorites! Highly recommended!!
