Theme songs

Did you watch Ally McBeal? Because I sure did. Heck, I even bought the Christmas album, and I can assure you that Robert Downey Jr.'s recording of "River" is heartwrenching and swoon-inducing. (Yes. Both. Really. But there was this one season where Ally went to see a shrink (played by Tracey Ullman), and that shrink advised Ally to get herself a ( Read more... )

I was backwards (no surprise there, right?), so the first time I ever heard this song was Robert Downey Jr.'s version, and I totally love it. And then I got the Joni Mitchell. And also Sarah McLachlan has a lovely rendition.

I'm in love with the modern world. I'm in touch; I'm a modern girl... elfstar18 June 1 2011, 12:52:48 UTC
I did the same thing with that episode! I hit on my theme right away though and it's served me well ever since, although it's kind of corny. My theme song is Roadrunner as performed by Joan Jett. "Ya know, I walked by the Stop-n-shop... And then I drove by the Stop-n-shop...and I liked that much better than walkin' by the Stop-n-shop... I got my radio on..."

Also, that Avril cover is going to be on heavy rotation for me now too.

Gotta love a personal theme song.

And while the Avril version of the song bugged me at first, I LOVED the cover - and it turns out that since I love the cover so much, I now don't mind Avril's version either. Bizarre!

Why does that not surprise me? It's up there for me, too - and I will listen to it at any time of the year.

My theme song seems to be "I've Always Been Crazy but It Keeps Me From Going Insane" by Waylon Jennings. It's pretty self-explanatory.

"Of course, he didn't say on WHAT, but I think it's a marvelous idea."

Sorry. I was even in the world's worst production of Twelfth Night, and I STILL flash on Anna Russell whenever I hear that quote. But I don't think her "My Heart Has Dishpan Hands" qualifies as a theme song.

Would it be bad to claim the Klezmatics' "An Undoing World" as my theme song? Or can one have a theme song that hasn't any words? Because then there'd be Boiled in Lead's "Ugros."

No, I think it all comes back to the Muppets in the end. Gonzo's "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" from the original Muppet Movie makes me tear up every time and sums up a lot of my life philosophy. With John McCutcheon's rendition of "How Can I Keep from Singing?" running it a close second. I know, you'd think it would be something with more cats in, wouldn't you?

I love Enya's version of "How Can I Keep From Singing" - such a beautiful hymn/song - I'll have to look for the McCutcheon. I'm pretty certain a wordless song could be a theme song - why not, if it catches the mood or attitude you're going for?
