A note from my chaise

And yes, I actually have a velveteen cheetah-print chaise longue in my living room in lieu of a couch. It's fabulous and glamorous and (best of all) the perfect spot for reading, as long as nobody's down in the family room with the TV blaring ( Read more... )

Your critiquee is lucky to have you! That's an awesome amount of focus and attention.

(and I read your first sentence initially as a cheeto-print chaise lounge.

It is tan with black spots, not fluorescent orange with black spots. Silly Dot.

Oh the notes I've been writing . . .

I'm so glad you loved the Wallflowers too! I read those first, now I'm reading through the Hathaways series (unfortunately slowly, just because they're not in my local library so I'm having to limit myself to 1 or 2 a month), and after that I'll start working my way backward too.

I really did love the Wallflowers - especially Anabelle's and Evie's stories. And of the Hathaways, I especially like Cam & Amelia's story, although I so like all of them that it's hard to pick just one.

Oh, a chaise longue! I am having furniture envy...I've always wanted one. They do, as you said, seem so glamorous and sort of indulgent. I love that you're taking a break from reading by reading but as you said, they are two completely different sorts of reading. It's like taking a break from power-walking by going for a leisurely stroll. Enjoy!

I totally love my chaise. It's an especially pretty shape, in addition to being comfortable and in a fun print.

And I still have so much reading to do - of both sorts!

You're so right - critique reading takes a long time, especially a novel because it's difficult to complete in a single sitting. I've been doing some crit reading too and I find it very stimulating to my own writing and analyzing my writing. I'm constantly surprised at how long it takes but I think that's because I'm trying to be thorough and as helpful as possible. Maybe I should get myself a crit chaise.

A single sitting? HAHAHAHA! I'm lucky to get through more than a chapter or two in a single sitting!

I read your ms in two sittings the first time through, but the notes/comments is what's taking so very long. Not because the manuscript is rife with problems, but because the notes are taking me a while to think through and write (and, in many cases, to backtrack to double-check stuff).

I'm happy to hear that it isn't "rife with problems." And I'm always grateful for your feedback. You are very thorough and give a damn good critique.
