The coding was a bitch, BUT the poems (and the book) are magnificent. You will adore it for sure, Andi - some of it may be stuff he read when we heard him at ALA. I can't remember well enough to be sure!

The way the text looks on the page threw me at first, but I got used to it. There are some that are shape poems that make sense to me - one about the Mississippi that is thin and winds down the page, another in the shape of a house, with wide-spaced words like smoke billowing out of where the stovepipe would be - and some where it's less obvious to me what the shape signifies, although it all must have meaning to Arnold. But I got used to the way he grouped words or phrases and/or emphasized them with his spacing, and it really does work.

Oh the craziness of coding this post. On the page, all the right-hand margins line up for that first poem. I couldn't quite manage it, try as I might. The second poem is almost identical to how it appears in the book, however.
