Remember that ham-handed proposal Darcy made back in Chapter 34, when he was so insulting about Elizabeth's lack of proper connections and her family's want of propriety? Well, this chapter includes his do-over. Mind you, now he's quite fond of the Gardiners (those improper family connections) and her family has behaved far more scandalously in the ( Read more... )

I'll just add, that much of what I've seen and heard of the 2005 version I haven't much liked - but this clip is very cute and full of emotion : )

The 2005 movie is fine as a movie, as long as you don't expect it to actually represent P&P. And Matthew MacFadyen is pretty delicious as Darcy - he plays Darcy more as shy and less as haughty, but it totally worked for me. And both proposal scenes were really great - and more emotional that Firth's performance.

Oh, that scene during the 2005 P&P is one of my all-time favorites. I love MacFayden's voice. It's so swoony.

I love his voice, too. Have you seen the YouTube clips where he reads poetry? I've posted them on my blog before - they are swoon-worthy. (Pretty sure there's a macfadyen tag for them if you haven't seen/heard him read "This is Just to Say", "When You are Old" and Shakespeare's Sonnet 29.)
