Going on a writing retreat with your critique group sounds wonderful! It sounds like you have a great group. When I started attending mine, it was often the leader and myself. I have so much respect for her sitting at Borders month after month, not knowing if anyone would show. We seem to have a few that would like to make it a priority, and some that pop in when they feel like it. It would be amazing to have at least some of the people month after month (besides the leader and myself). How did your group start?

juliewinkler posted an intention to form one on the NJ SCBWI board. The other 5 of us all called her up, and we started having meetings. There were a few others who came early one and never came back, but we're still meeting monthly after more than a year and a half. We now consider our group "closed" because it's been the 6 of us for so long, and we've built up a mutual respect and trust that's really worthwhile, and works well for us. We still have the occasional visitor, but we're pretty settled with our membership these days!

That is wonderful. I hope you realize how lucky you are!

I find that I need to bring PB's for my group to critique because we often don't have the same people from month to month and it would be difficult for someone to begin critiquing in the middle of a novel.

I am extremely lucky that I found two online groups that have helped me. I've improved from comments made in my in person group, but would love to see the same faces every month and be able to discuss the business more. I think we might be up to 3 steady writers - so that's a good start.

With 6 steady people, I don't blame you for wanting to close the group. After over a year and a half, it sounds like everyone is in it for the long haul - but you can always make a back up list just in case.

Don't forget--Project Runway--TONIGHT. Set your TiVo or tape it if your crit group goes long. Or you might have to be "out".

I'm so excited -- and it's a double episode, too. The first hour is the road to Project Runway, and the second hour is the first challenge (there are 16 of you here but only 14 get to stay --- GO!)
