Thoughts over an afternoon cup of tea

Update on the beginning of the end of the Jane ProjectRemember that poem I was maundering about yesterday? Well, I just may have completed it today. It's "only" taken 6 writing sessions, and a total of about 20 hours, to get it done. Weirdly, the first hour got me four lines, and then I flailed about in the land of false starts for a while, and ( Read more... )

You've poured a lot of yourself into this, so it's no wonder there are mixed feelings. I like the idea of Louisa, though ;)

I've had my eye on Louisa since about 3 months into Jane. Enough that I've bought and set aside a few books. But she'll wait until fall, I think. I've got some other stuff to work on before I start another love affair.

Nearing the end of a project that has been challenging, exciting, and rewarding is bittersweet. But that too is a good feeling. Enjoy it.

Congratulations on nearing the end. I'll save the sparkles for the actual finish. ;)

Thanks - premature sparkling might be embarrassing. (Let's ask Mr. Cullen, shall we?)

There is that, too. That's the dark underbelly, though. I keep wondering - what if after all this, nobody wants to read it? Although lots of folks have said oooh, I'd like to read it someday, it doesn't mean that they, in fact, want to read it - nor does it mean that anyone will like what I've actually written, even if they like the concept. So I know how you feel. Really and truly.

I'm so proud of you for finishing (nearly) the end of your novel. You so rock. That's something I have yet to try - but it's on my list!

There is nothing crazy about personifying our projects--who else do we spend that much time with? Yay for you--for getting here, for recognizing all the feelings, and for not letting them stop you!

My favorite line of the week-"flailed about in the land of false starts." Isn't that an unwritten chapter in The Phantom Tollbooth?

Sad but true confession: I've never read The Phantom Tollbooth. Though I'm pretty sure it was one of my brother's favorite books. He loved it, I loved LOTR. Go figure.

And "flailed about in the land of false starts" is a pretty great line, now that I see it in isolation. Perhaps if I hadn't named my blog "Writing & Ruminating" long ago, I'd have used "Flailing About in the Land of False Starts" as my moniker.
