ALA 2010, part two

Before leaving the Convention Center to head to Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, I stopped by the Scholastic Book Fairs booth, where Linda Sue Park was signing. Let me just say this about Linda Sue Park: she has a fantastic sense of style. This photo doesn't do justice to the dress she had on, which had an asymmetrical zipper set down the front. It was so nice to meet you in person! Dinner was a blast, thanks for letting me tag along. Although that is not the best picture of me...why oh why do I always have a prominent zit during these things??

You're so funny. I didn't notice your zit at all. I kept thinking "if only there wasn't flash bounceback from her glasses!"

Well, I'm glad I'm the only one who notices, I guess, but I went to the bathroom during the party and there was like, a spot of dried blood on my chin right after I was talking to, you know, pretty much everyone cool in the universe, and I thought, damn you Galassini blood and your bad skin.

MT Anderson...wow! I'd love to meet him. I'm going to have to check out The Game of Sunken Places. I loved Feed, and the Octavian Nothing books.

The Game of Sunken Places is for middle grade audiences, and it's really hard to describe. It feels Edwardian in setting, and there is decidedly something . . . odd going on when two boys end up in Vermont with a long-lost relative for the summer. It's been a while since I read it, but it sits on my "damn, I wish I'd written that" shelf in the bookcase.

I wish you'd been there too, just because I'd like to meet you in person. Some day.

Oh the books. So many of them to see, only some to take home, and heavy, heavy, heavy at that.

I'm surprised you have time to read blogs - it sounded from your recent post like you've been running yourself ragged lately!
