The Sun Rising is my favourite John Donne poem. I'd not read this one so it was interesting to see the similarities.

This one was quoted in The Seduction of the Crimson Rose by Lauren Willig by perhaps my favorite of her characters, so I scurried off to read this poem after reading the book (last spring), and I've been extremely fond of it ever sing. But I do adore "The Sun Rising" as well, which I posted back in July of 2008.

Of course NOW I'm on a bit of a Donne kick, having just read "Go and catch a falling star", which is BRILLIANT. But I absolutely won't go three days in a row with the same poet, so tomorrow I'll be on to someone else.

Excellent! I've opened the Sun Rising entry to have a read.

It's good to be introduced to new poets too :D

This was so waiting for John Dowland--of course he would, because of its complaint. It reminds me much of the "aubade" that opens Richard Strauss' "Rosenkavalier," where the young man is wishing he didn't have to share the older woman with everyone, as he has to do during the day.

I only know a song or two from Der Rosenkavalier; didn't know the plot at all.
