Tonight, M and I had a "girls night out" at the movies, where we saw Alice in Wonderland in 2D. I am seriously considering going back and springing for the glasses, since I could see how certain scenes would be completely mind-blowing in 3D (not just the fall down the rabbit hole, either, although that would definitely be something in 3D, methinks).
Also, there are a few quotes I'd like to check/jot down. Here's one from the Mad Hatter that I particularly enjoyed that I believe to be correct: "You used to be much more...'muchier.' You've lost your muchness." Man, don't we all lose our muchness now and then?
Three guys in their mid-20s sat in front of us, and seriously cracked up at one point when the Cheshire Cat delivered a line "Goodbye, sweet hat". It sounded remarkably like Horatio's line from Hamlet, "goodnight, sweet prince" in delivery. No idea if that's why they giggled, but that is precisely what all three of them did: giggle. In a giddy sort of giggly way. It was extremely funny, and caused M and I to laugh as well.
This material suited Tim Burton extremely well, and/or vice-versa. Massive love for this film here. And I'll for certain be writing a few quotes into my commonplace book. Like this exchange, perhaps, which occurs at two different points in the film - once with Alice as asker, and once as answerer:
Little-girl Alice at the start/Mad Hatter later in the film: Have I gone mad?
[Father/Alice checks Alice/Hatter's temperature]
Charles Kingsley at start/Alice later: I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.
And now, to sleep . . . perchance to dream. For after seeing Alice, what dreams may come?
