My grandfather was not PA Dutch, but he was from Lancaster County. I forgot about the tripe until just now - my grandmother cooked it up and called it Hot Pot (I think). And I still love bologna, Lebanon and otherwise.
Yep - souse is in the list of stuff my grandfather ate that I thought was icky. It's bits of pork meat in gelatin, and I think it's spiced. I never had the guts to try it. Pun intended.
1. There's a radio commercial here that features the sound of snoring. Drives me batty.
2. Most of my weird food things can be traced back to my grandmother, who cooked "the old fashioned way" if by "the old fashioned way" you mean that she followed the recipes that Good Housekeeping and its ilk printed in the 50s. I enjoy any and all meat loafs.(loaves?)Salmon loaf! Ham loaf! The leftovers of yesterday's main dish sent through the food processor and spread on bread!
I also am a big fan of Jello dinner salads. Cool-whip and maraschino cherries counting as vegetable! My grandmother's "secret" addition to that one is a can of Coke. She's very proud of the recipe. I like the orange one with grated up carrots in it too.
Smoked oysters from the can on crackers. Cocktail wieners. I am making myself hungry.
My paternal grandmother made a "salad" that was a piece of iceberg lettuce (a piece, not a wedge), with a canned pineapple ring on top and a "dressing" made of mayonnaise and maraschino cherry juice. I kid you not. And I love it.
My grandpa used to eat brown swaggert (sp?) and I loved it when I was a kid. My other grandpa cut the corn from the cob and mixed it with mayo and he drank molasses stirred in his glass of milk. I liked these things when I was a kid, but I have not eaten them in ages and now the thought makes me feel a little sick to my stomach.
I believe you mean braunschweiger - that's yummy. I bet molasses in milk tastes great - I like them separately, and I like vanilla milk (a tsp of vanilla and a tbsp of sugar mixed into a tall glass), so I may give that a try!
I hate any time people crunch or chew loudly - in real life or on TV. I understand being embarrassed about some of the things we like. It's like that sometimes.

Oatmeal shake-oatmeal with protein powder and water, blend, drink. (yes it's very chunky and gross)
Egg whites-I drink 'em raw.
Protein pancake: protein powder, egg whites, oatmeal, blended then cooked in a pan
Boiled chicken breast: okay, I don't do that one anymore, I only did it right before a fitness competition, but it's very weird!
