I got up early to watch the awards online - no video, but I did have flawless audio. I was thrilled that my prediction that my friend Tanita Davis would win a Coretta Scott King honor for MARE'S WAR came to pass, that L.K. Madigan won the William Morris award for FLASH BURNOUT (WOOT!), and that I correctly predicted a Caldecott honor for Liz Garton

I'm putting THE LION AND THE MOUSE and ALL THE WORLD (love the title) on my 10-month-old's birthday list this March. Will look forward to reading both books with her and her sister! Hope you have a wonderful day.

And ALL THE WORLD is spectacular. It still makes me tear up, even on repeat readings. The text is sneaky that way - it's lovely, and wonderful, and the illustrations are darn near perfect, and then you hit the end and suddenly find yourself far more emotional than you realized you were getting. (At least it was like that for me, and for angeladegroot as well when we each read it.)

I loved all three of the Caldecott picks this year. And I was absolutely delighted that my good friend Grace Lin won a Newbery Honor Award for her book WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON!
